Zigueira is a famous Brazilan youtuber and professional gamer, he is 32 years old and his real name is Leo because his father registered his name at registry wrong, it was Leonard, but he registered only the nickname… When he was 16 he played on a semi professional soccer team at Ribeirão Preto and played games in a LAN house. When his parents got divorced he and his mother went to Australia where he started working at mc donalds and started working out. When he was 20 he saved money and came back to Brazil, but it wasn’t enough money so he lived in a republic with 3 guys.
3 years later, one old friend invited him to play a new competitive computer game in a professional team. He was broke and without a job so he accepted the invitation. He played so well in the first championship that the other team accused of cheating, because of this he made a video on youtube show him playing at home and showing his hands to prove his ability. That video had three thousand views and lots of comments asking for more videos.
Now he is retired, but continuously making videos for YouTube. That decision was because he wants to make a family and during the year he lived with his partners in games in lots of different places and saw his girlfriend few times a year. Now he lives with his wife (recently married) and does his job at home.
He was a different type of gamer, because he looks like a bodybuilder, works out every day since he was 16 years old, usually eats healthy food and always goes outdoors always that is possible.
To be a gamer is, nowadays, more common and easier than when zigueira started, but it’s an uncommon job yet. You must be famous in this area to receive a good salary, which can be from US$1000 to US$5000. Some exceptions have a good salary like normal soccer players (US$15000). Most parents think “it’s just a hobby” or “you should study to get a job”, it’s difficult for them to understand how it works and how it’s possible to make money playing games.
I’m not much for play games all the day so I never try to be a gamer, but I think it’s a new type of professional sports and more opportunity for new workers try to do, you just need a pc or money for play in a LAN house, who knows you are able to be a gamer?
